Oncolytic Viruses and Its Commercialization: A mini-review

Abstract

|
Oncolytic virus immunotherapy represents a new class of therapeutic approach that target the cancer cells selectively and it is emerging as supportive or alternative treatment to the standard of care such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Its unique advantages stems from its tumor cell specific lysis along with host immune stimulation. To date, a wide variety of oncolytic viruses are evaluated for this purpose and several of them demonstrated promising clinical results. Recently, it is used in combination with other anti-cancer mo?dalities showing more enhanced results. This article briefly describes past, current and future perspectives of oncolytic virus immunotherapy focusing on the virus type and combination agents and discusses consideration in developing oncolytic viruses as commercial therapeutic agents in field of cancer treatment.
